Comic Book for adolescent children

Different skills, one mindset: cook the story right, and everything else follows.

Challenges & Objectives

/ Project Overview

The Girls & Boys Comic Book project is an educational, story-driven comic series created for adolescents, focusing on the lived experiences of boys and girls from a rural Maharashtrian setting. Set in the village of Dhebewadi, the stories follow characters like Gopal, Meena, Anuj, Preeti, Ayesha, Ravi, Neha, and their friends as they navigate school life, friendships, family expectations, and the physical and emotional changes of adolescence.

The project addresses sensitive topics such as puberty, emotional well-being, peer pressure, family values, and the impact of modern influences through relatable storytelling and dialogue-based narratives.

A key innovation of the project is the integration of animated, infographic-based explainer films within the printed comic book. These films expand on selected topics using animation and structured storytelling, and are accessed seamlessly through QR codes printed inside the comic, creating a blended reading-and-viewing learning experience.

/ Challenges

The primary challenge was addressing adolescence-related topics with sensitivity, clarity, and cultural relevance for readers aged 9–15. Subjects such as physical changes, emotional confusion, and social pressure needed careful treatment to avoid stigma or misinformation.

An additional challenge was designing supplementary animated content that could enhance understanding without overwhelming the core narrative. The QR-linked films had to remain age-appropriate, visually engaging, and educational while working smoothly alongside a printed medium.

/ Objectives

The objective was to create a safe, relatable, and multi-format learning ecosystem for adolescents. The comic narratives provide emotional connection, while the QR-code-linked animated infographic films offer clearer explanations of complex topics, improving comprehension and retention.

Another key objective was to build a future-ready educational IP, combining print and digital storytelling, and making the content useful not only for students but also for parents, teachers, and counselors as a guided learning tool.

/ Final Outcome

The Girls & Boys Comic Book successfully evolves into a hybrid educational storytelling format, blending print comics with animated explainer films. The QR-code integration transforms the book into an interactive learning experience, helping students understand sensitive topics more effectively through visuals and animation.

The final outcome is a culturally grounded, pedagogically strong, and scalable educational resource one that bridges storytelling, animation, and technology to support adolescents during a crucial phase of growth.
