Different skills, one mindset: cook the story right, and everything else follows.
The UNICEF – Climate Champions Animation (Biju–Tuli Project) is a series of short, child-friendly animated films created to communicate the urgent message: “Climate Change is Real. We Need to Care!” The campaign addresses everyday environmental issues water conservation, plastic pollution, waste segregation, tree plantation, and climate awareness through simple stories rooted in children’s daily lives.
Recurring characters Biju, Tuli, Frisbee, and Prakriti act as Climate Champions, using humour, metaphors, and teamwork to make complex climate concepts relatable for children and families
The key challenge of the campaign is communicating a global crisis to young audiences without fear or overwhelm. Climate change is complex, abstract, and often communicated in alarming ways that can disengage children. Translating these issues into simple, emotionally resonant stories while maintaining scientific seriousness requires careful balance.
Additionally, the campaign needs to work across digital platforms and social media, demanding short, engaging narratives that are visually consistent, culturally neutral, and scalable for mass outreach.
The primary objective is to build climate awareness and responsibility at a young age by linking everyday habits to environmental impact. The campaign aims to empower children as change-makers within their homes and communities, encouraging small but meaningful actions such as saving water, avoiding single-use plastics, segregating waste, and planting trees.
Creatively, the objective is to use playful animation, metaphors, and character-driven storytelling to make learning enjoyable, memorable, and actionable.
The campaign results in an optimistic, engaging animated series that educates without preaching and motivates without fear. By using relatable characters and simple visual metaphors, the films successfully bridge awareness and action.
The Biju–Tuli Climate Champions campaign stands as a scalable, repeatable storytelling model for UNICEF effective for social media, school outreach, and community engagement reinforcing the idea that meaningful climate action begins with small, everyday choices.
